Because who you are is beautiful and worthy of love.
Because who you are is beautiful and worthy of love.
This whimsically joyful picture book is an empowering children’s story that celebrates individuality across the rainbow-hued spectrum. With playful rhyme and exuberant illustrations, author illustrator Chris Paul Rainbows Farias (they/them) celebrates the freedom to express yourself and the beauty of being exactly who you are.
Readers are invited to imagine a world where animals are hilariously limited in what they can do but humans are gloriously free to saunter, flaunt, and wear just what we want. From lipsticked llamas to tumbling giraffes, each page bursts with colorful chaos and loving affirmation.
At its heart, this is the book Chris wished they had as a kid growing up in a small town, one that gently opens the door to conversations about self expression, gender, and being true to yourself.
Who is this book for?
Families seeking 2SLGBTQIA+ picture books for toddlers
Educators and librarians building inclusive children’s collections

Anyone who believes that every child deserves to see themselves in stories
Inspiration
Chris is known for taking very complex concepts and making them easier to understand. The idea for this book began on TikTok while Chris was explaining the difference between sex and gender to adults. Since animals do not experience gender, they joked in one video that their guinea pigs do not wear pants, and people loved it. That small spark quickly grew into something much bigger.
Chris has always loved poetry, the playful rhythms of Dr. Seuss, and complex animal characters like those in Charlotte’s Web. They also found themselves channeling the gentle songs of Fred Penner and the catchy little ditties of Sesame Street. The words just flowed.
To bring the story to life, Chris rented a cabin in the middle of nowhere and spent days and nights illustrating, noodling, doodling, and refining until every page felt just right.
Since childhood, Chris has dreamed of publishing a book, but as an adult this dream has grown into something larger: to make sure every child feels seen. Representation is life saving.
Chris also looks forward to the day their nieces can walk into a bookstore, spot Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants on the shelf, and know that they did their best to make the world a little brighter. And maybe, just maybe, it will inspire them to do the same.
